i know I’m a first time mom, and super new to all this. But I’ve experienced a few blowouts (just in the last few days)… Is it the fact that the diaper is too big or small? The coincidence that the diaper had some pee and weighed it down leaving gaps in the thighs for poop to shoot out? Or maybe it was the diaper brand of choice that can’t handle my sons sometimes explosive poops? Trial and error I suppose. Luckily they haven’t happened out in public yet… Then again I probably just jinxed myself.
Another thought I am pondering… Do reusable diapers fit better and allow for more coverage? How do you other mommas deal with cleaning them all the time? Oh side note… Big side note…. I do not have a washer and dryer, so when I do my little ones clothes I hand wash… Usually every few days so then the load doesn’t pile up but also because the loads are relatively small I don’t want to go to a laundry mat to do his clothes… The money adds up!
My fiancés friend makes reusable diapers and I have seen her work and they are adorable… I know it would save a crap ton of money! Luckily we haven’t had to buy diapers yet as we got a few boxes and packages as gifts.. But we also are only just ending month one, so that will change in the next week. So! Should we give reusable diapers a chance? I think since I could probably get them for free from that friend I will try it out!
Little one is crying now… Must attend to his pleas. Love that little booger
As far as blow outs go, I had to change brands of diapers. At first I was using luvs, but I kept having to change his clothes as well as his diaper when he needed changing. I switched to pampers. Its a little more expensive, but when you consider how much laundry you save by not having to change his clothes with each diaper change, it makes it worth it. I tried huggies once and they were absolutely terrible. I couldn’t even finish the box!
I’ve entertained the idea of reusable diapers once or twice, but then I decided against it. I also don’t have washer and dryer where I live (thanks to the apartment owner) so it wouldn’t be ideal. Just think of it this way, are you able to wash dishes every time you’d like? Are you able to wash even your own clothes every time you like? If you know that you don’t really have much time to do regular house maintenance (babies are very demanding) then I wouldn’t get reusable diapers yet. Once you get a washer and dryer, then sure go for it! It’ll be nothing to just throw it into the washer and tend to baby. Save yourself some work and enjoy that precious baby!

Wow… Thanks! For the most part…so far… I can do laundry (his) whenever I really need to. Mine on the other hand lol… Not so much. Then again I’m not getting out of pajamas if I’m not going out of the house haha. Something to consider though. I might still give it a try and see what it’s all about but most likely I will stick with disposable! Thank you for your input!!

We were going to do cloth (reusable) diapers, but who am I kidding. I barely keep on top of our family’s laundry now. We tried Honest diapers, they’re disposable but biodegradable. You should check them out. Good Luck! 😄

Just finished changing my two infants…..both poopy AGAIN.(I have done daycare in my home for 20 yrs and recently just started two infants four weeks apart) Blowouts happen no matter what diapers you use at this age. Keep your head held high, plug your nose and take all the free clothing friends offer you.
Stop back in to my blog and maybe you will get some pointers from time to time.
Your little guy is precious:)
